Software
- – TONALDRONE
- TonalDrone for iPhone
So far, I have built two harmony applications for iPhone.
The latest, TonalDrone, is a tool for practising (and otherwise just ‘doing’) modal improvisation and ear training. It gives a rather complete ordered grid of modal scales and provides a list of chords which can serve as a background for improvisation using that scale. One can also test the feel of scales with different chords beneath them; explore the different feelings of chords with different extensions.
- – POCKETHARMONY
Also available in the iTunes store is PocketHarmony (due for a big update by May 2010). This application is designed to give a maximally efficient overview of key relationships on the circle of fifths. The chords belonging to each key are color-coded to match the keys in the circle, and they change their colors with each key. So are the basic interrelationships between keys and chords made visually clear. The coming update will allow for many more chord options in the representation of keys, and will offer many more options for sound.
