Over the years, since he first began writing under the influences of Pierre Boulez, his style has softened somewhat, and he has opened up more to lyric fantasy and good spirits. The string trio gives full character to each of the three instruments &#8211; each breaks out of the opening solidities into its own character with its own questions.
